看过血月亮很厉害，学会这些和月亮有关的英文更厉害

小白老师说：昨夜今晨，加长版日全食和 15 年一遇的火星大冲天文奇观现身天宇，听说你们昨晚见到了血月亮，今天就来说说和月亮有关的英文表达吧。**

什么是 blood moon（血月）？

The sun shines on the Earth and creates a shadow. As the moon moves deeper into that shadow, it appears to turn dark and may even appear to be a reddish（微红的） color. Why red? Because Earth’s atmosphere is filtering（过滤） out most of the blue light. Some people have nicknamed（以此来命名） the effect.

阳光照射在地球上形成了阴影。月球越接近阴影的中心，颜色就变得越深，甚至会变成红色。为什么是红色？因为地球大气层过滤了绝大部分蓝色。“血月” 由此得名。▼

提到和月亮有关的天文奇观，就不得不提 super moon（超级月亮）。

那 super moon（超级月亮）又是什么？

Supermoon（超级月亮）是指月亮距离地球近距离的状态（月球和地球最近约35 万公里），从地球上观看，月球比远地点时面积增大 14%，亮度增加 30%，因此得名。超级月亮平均每年出现一次，并不稀奇。▼

好了，言归正传，咱们毕竟是英语课不是科学课，赶紧来带大家学习几个和 moon 相关的习语和表达吧。

once in a blue moon

blue moon 本意是指 “一个月中的第二次满月”，由于月运周期（月亮绕地球一周）是 29.5 天，而根据日历，每个月大多都有至少 30 天，因此，大约每 32 个月左右则会轮到一次 blue moon，这是一段相当长的时间，所以，自 19 世纪后期以来，blue moon 就形容 “很少发生；机会难得；千载难逢”。最近一次出现 blue moon 是在 2018 年的 1 月 31 日。

另一种解释是当球大气层中悬浮着特定的灰尘和烟尘颗粒达到一定浓度的时候，月亮也会呈现出蓝色，这可是真正的 blue moon。

因此，我们在日常生活中可使用这个句子：

“It is only once in a blue moon that you get an opportunity like that.” 来形容机会难得。再如：

My sister is working in Africa, she hardly ever has the time to call us. My parents only hear from her once in a blue moon.

姐姐在非洲工作，几乎没时间联系我们。父母也很少接到她的电话。

cry / ask for the moon

记得儿时，小小的自己仰头望月，总觉得月亮是那么的神秘和遥不可及。英文有个很贴切的谚语，叫做 cry for the moon 或 ask for the moon，意思就是想得到一些很难得到、甚至根本没有可能得到的东西。例如：

To buy a flat here in Hong Kong now with less than a million is like crying for the moon.

今天，拿着不足一百万元想在香港置业，像登天揽月一般不可能。

Don’t cry for the moon. The only way to get a good grade in the exam is to work hard.

不要抱存幻想了。想考出成绩，唯一的途径是用功读书。

shoot for the moon

有些时候，希望得到一些难度较高的东西，或者达到一些较远大的目标，亦不是坏事。另一个习语 shoot for the moon 就有这个意思。shoot 是 “瞄准” 的意思，瞄准的目标是月亮，显然表示设定了一个极高的目标，务求尽量做到最好，得到最多。例如：

When you shoot for the moon, you have greater motivation and you can achieve more.

如果你订下远大目标，你便会有更大的推动力，可以取得更大的成就。

shoot for the moon 也曾出现在一些名人语录中，励志演说家 Les Brown（莱斯 · 布朗）曾经说过：

Shoot for the moon and if you miss, you will still be among the stars.

定下奔月般的远大志向，纵使不能到达，也会跻身于繁星之中。

后街男孩（Backstreet Boys）成员 Brian Littrell 亦曾说过类似的话：

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.

瞄准月亮。即使没射中，仍可落于星辰之中。

意思都一样，是鼓励大家要志存高远，纵使最终不能达到，也不会离大目标太远。小白老师觉得这两句西方名人名言和论语中的 “取乎其上，得乎其中；取乎其中，得乎其下；取乎其下，则无所得矣” 简直是神契合呀！

over the moon

这个习语的意思是 “非常快乐，欣喜若狂”，这和我们中国人说的 “高兴得都上天了” 不谋而合。例如：

John got engaged today and he is over the moon.

约翰今天订婚了，他开心得不得了。

moon away

这个短语的意思是 “虚度时光”。例如：

Don’t moon away the summer vocation. 找点事儿做吧，不要虚度了暑假哦。

• bark at the moon
• bay the moon

狗有时会对着月亮吠叫，借以吓唬月亮，可是无论它再怎么凶猛咆哮都只是白费力气而已。后来人们就用 bay the moon 或 bark at the moon 来比喻“空嚷嚷，徒劳，无事空扰”。

boast above / beyond the moon 捧上天， 海阔天空地吹牛

对着月亮叫 (bark at the moon) 都是枉费心机了，boast above the moon 就更是吹牛皮了。

cover oneself with the moon

身披月光，听起来浪漫又美好，其实在英文里指指流浪汉与失业者露宿街头，拿月关当被子盖的意思。这句英语谚语与中文中的 “以天为被，以地为席” 有异曲同工之妙，都是指 “头顶上无片瓦，只得露宿在外”。

关于月亮，小白老师最爱的是这个桥段：据说夏目漱石在学校当英文老师的时候出了一篇短文翻译，要求学生把文中男女主角在月下散步时男主角情不自禁说出的 “I love you.” 翻译成日文，夏目漱石对学生说，不应直译成 “我爱你”，翻译成 “月が绮丽ですね”（今夜月色很好）就足够了。
