来看今天的长难句：

As my own studies have advanced, I have been increasingly impressed with the functional similarities between insect and vertebrate societies and less so with the structural differences that seem, at first glance, to constitute such an immense gulf between them.

难点分析

这个句子的难点是子句较多，修饰成分复杂。

句子开头是 as 引导的时间状语从句（as my own studies have advanced）。后面的主句中，出现了并列谓语的结构，即 and 连接了两个谓语动词（have been increasingly impressed with…, and less so with…），而主句只有一个“I”。

句子最后出现了由 that 引导的定语从句（that seem, at first glance, to consitute such an immense gulf between them），修饰其前面的名词短语 the structural differences。
