长难句是阅读理解的痛点，在长难句上失手，有可能导致对整篇文章的理解发生重大偏差。小白老师每周给大家精讲一个长难句，带大家在实际案例中学习，这一篇是第 39 期。

来看今天的长难句：

If, as the initial tests with cDNA probes suggest, peptide hormones really are made in the brain in areas other than the hypothalamus, a theory must be developed that explains their function in the brain.

难点分析

这是一个主从复合句，句子的难点在于理解较长的修饰成分 in areas other than the hypothalamus，其语序与汉语不同，可能会影响我们对句子的理解。

in areas other than the hypothalamus 修饰 the brain，翻译时，应按照汉语的表达习惯进行调整，“在大脑中下丘脑以外的地方”，把这个短语的意思里清楚，这个句子的意思就出来了了。
